How can I lower my Claude API bill?

Batch requests at half price, cache repeated prompt prefixes, route simple requests to smaller models, and buy credits where a dollar of usage costs least.

Free Claude API credits

Anthropic doesn't give free credits on signup: the Claude API is paid with prepaid credits. The real ways in are Anthropic's Startup Program, cloud startup credits usable on Claude through Amazon Bedrock, and buying credits below face value.

If you qualify
API credits and priority rate limits for VC-backed startups founded less than 4 years ago that haven't received credits before. No amount is published. Credits apply to the first-party Claude API only, not Bedrock or Vertex.

If you qualify
AWS Activate gives startups $1,000 (Founders, up to $5,000 for some) to $200,000 (Portfolio, through a partner) in AWS credits, explicitly usable on Amazon Bedrock, where Claude models are available.
